MIKE Fowler praised the intensity of his side’s second-half performance after Redditch United claimed a 3-0 pre-season win against Sporting Club Inkberrow.

After a goalless first period, Tyler Bruck, Robbie Bunn and also Liam Loughlan all found the net for the Reds at Sands Road.

And Fowler praised his side’s reaction after the break with all three goals born out of an intense high press.

Fowler said: “The first half was flat, we had a lot of the ball but not a lot of control in the game.

“We were going into areas and not having any rhyme or reason to the things we were doing.

“We lacked game intelligence in the first half and I was really disappointed with the amount of second balls we didn’t land on.

“I was pleased with the result in the end and really pleased with the second half.

“It looked a lot better, there was a lot more intensity to our play which is everything we’re going to be about.”

The Reds broke the deadlock two minutes after half time. Bruck fired a first time shot past the Inkberrow goalkeeper after Danny King won the ball high up the pitch down the right.

And Bunn doubled Redditch’s lead on 70 minutes when he raced onto a loose pass and drove a low shot into the net

United’s high press paid dividends again on 84 minutes as Loughlan finished at the second attempt after Bunn’s initial effort came back off the post.

After three successive away friendly matches, Fowler is looking forward to his first game in the Valley Stadium dugout.

And with a new 3G pitch laid at the Valley during the summer, Fowler wants to make Redditch’s home ground a fortress this season.

Fowler added: “The pitch looks absolutely sensational, we’re all excited.

“We’re looking forward to getting on there and getting used to the surface.

“We want to make it a real advantage to us, everyone wants to make their home pitch a fortress.

“We’re very lucky we’re being given an absolutely fantastic pitch to go and showcase what we’re about as a football team.”

Redditch host Evesham United on Saturday, July 19 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
