THE Hart Crown Green Bowling Club brought an end to a successful season after clinching one league title and three promotions.

Hart’s A team retained their Heart of England League Division One title while the club’s Saturday side achieved promotion to Division Two of the Warwick and Worcester League.

And two of the club’s B teams also secured promotion to Division Two of the Yardley Wood Superleague and Division Four of the South West Birmingham and District Over 60s League respectively.

Hart’s Northfield and District A team endured a difficult campaign which ended in relegation to Division Two.

However, the side did manage to reach the Sid Stephens Cup final, taking on Triplex B in the showpiece.

Triplex received 12 shots due to playing one division below the Redditch club.

And Triplex won three of the opening four ties to take a 47-shot advantage at the halfway stage.

The Hart fought back as father and son pair Jim and Dave Mahaffey won their games while Neil Laxton and Mike Estell also triumphed.

However, Triplex took the title with a 156-118 success.

The Hart’s annual Club Championship competition also took place recently with the event attracting 20 participants.

And club bowler Cameron Cutler booked his place in the final with a 21-15 victory against county bowler and former winner Pete Davenport.

He was joined by Tony Moore who beat Oscar Fielding 21-17 in the other semi-final with the former looking to defend his Hart crown.

The final proved a tight affair with the game locked at 19-apiece before Moore found the bowls needed over the last ends of a marathon encounter to retain his title and the trophy.
