SHIHAN Dave Treadwell, founder of Furi Sutairu Karate Academy in Redditch, led the England team at the ICO World Championships.
England’s ICO karate president Treadwell led a team of 43 athletes with England represented by more than 200 martial artists at the event in Swansea, Wales.
And England topped the medal table with 201 gold medals, 194 silver and 133 bronze ahead of the United States of America and hosts Wales.
Treadwell said: “Being in martial arts for over 41 years and competing on big stages, the standard was up there with the best I have seen in all areas of the competition.
“Next year we take a squad to France and we will have an even bigger squad of athletes competing at the very top level.
“If you want it you need to work for it and I am proud of every single person that has been with us on this journey so far.
“The future is bright with this team.”
