FOOTBALL - Tim Flowers admits Alvechurch might need short-term signings to cope with injury problems

TIM Flowers admits Alvechurch may need to make some short-term signings owing to injuries in the middle of the park and up front.

Church beat Worcester City on penalties at Lye Meadow to reach the second round of the FA Trophy.

However, Alvechurch lost Joe Willis to injury in the first half before recent signing Harley Hamilton departed for National League North side Hereford.

And Flowers admits he may need to add to his squad to make up the numbers on the bench.

Flowers said: “I’m delighted with the win. It was a really even game, there wasn’t anything in it really.

“There was a lot of endeavour, commitment and effort from both sides which cancelled each other out.

“We managed to get through the shootout. It’s a money spinner for the club to go through a couple of rounds in the Trophy.

“I’ve had the heart ripped clean out of my midfield [through injuries]. Fingers crossed there’s some decent news coming out of the treatment room.

“We’re light up top and light in the middle of the pitch. We’ve got to monitor it really closely and might need some bodies in short-term because in the end we’re going to run out of subs.”

Church now face back-to-back league games against the Southern Premier League Central’s top two sides – Spalding United and Harborough Town.

And Flowers insists he will be taking a pragmatic approach to the fixtures with Church seeking to end a three-game losing run in the league.

Flowers added: “Spalding and Harborough – if they don’t finish one and two in the division I’ll be absolutely gobsmacked.

“They’re two teams rammed full of quality with two very good managers. Everybody in the league has felt their power already.

“I understand that. You’ve got to be careful how you set up that you don’t find yourself on the end of a hiding.

“We’re setting out to keep the score down. We’ll have a go. The standard of in-possession play has just come off the boil recently.

“But the effort and commitment are still there despite losing a lot of quality bodies.”

Alvechurch are next in action against Spalding United on Saturday, November 1 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
