STUDLEY’S Hannah Hampton has been voted BBC women’s footballer of the year for 2025.
The goalkeeper excelled for club and country this year as she helped Chelsea win a domestic treble and England to European Championship glory.
The 25-year-old recorded 13 clean sheets in 22 Women’s Super League (WSL) appearances for Chelsea.
She saved two penalties in the shootout as England beat Spain to lift the Euro 2025 title in the summer.
Hampton told BBC Sport: “I definitely didn’t expect it with all the other players nominated.
“I think they’ve all had unbelievable years.
“It still doesn’t quite sink in that people call you England number one.
“I still see so many unbelievable goalkeepers before me who have done a lot better things than I’ve done.
“I’ve still got big shoes and big gloves to fill.
“From Carly [Telford], Karen [Bardsley] to Mary [Earps], even before that, they’ve changed the perception of women’s goalkeeping.
“I’m just another body in that that has helped changed the way.
“I know where I want to get to in life and hopefully I’ll get there some day.”
Hampton beat England teammate Alessia Russo and Spain’s Aitana Bonmati to the top prize.
Spanish duo Patri Guijarro and Mariona Caldentey were also in contention to win the award.
A panel of experts, including coaches, players, administrators and journalists, chose the final contenders.
The players were selected based on performances from September 2024 to August 2025.
Hampton becomes just the second goalkeeper to win the award after compatriot Mary Earps claimed top spot in 2023.
The Studley stopper won the best goalkeeper prize – the Yashin Trophy – at the Ballon d’Or awards earlier this year.
Hampton also earned a place in the FIFPRO women’s World 11, voted for by her fellow professionals, earlier this month.
