ALCESTER RFC claimed their first away win of the season with a 33-27 bonus point victory at Leamington.
Tries from Ieuan Hopkin, Morgan O’Dell, Jamie Harland, Josh O’Connor and Lewis Wright, along with four conversions from Ed Gough, sealed victory for the visitors at Moorefields.
And the result means Alcester sit third in the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) table, seven points behind leaders Worcester.
Alcester made a fast start as loosehead prop Hopkin scored the game’s first try after just six minutes and Gough kicked the extras.
Leamington responded with a try of their own on the quarter-hour mark before Alcester lost Alex Chiles to a yellow card for a high tackle.
However, the visitors struck again despite playing with 14-men as O’Dell dotted down after good work from Sam Lear and Nigel Burrows.
The home side eventually made the most of the extra man to close the deficit to two points at the break.
Alcester extended their lead early in the second period as Harland raced in down the left to score and Gough converted.
The visitors scored their bonus point try when Gough released O’Connor to touch down and the former added the extras.
Leamington scored a third try to reduce the deficit before Wright powered over and Gough converted to seal victory for the visitors.
The home side scored a bonus point try late on and kicked a penalty to further reduce the deficit while Alcester lost Gough to the sin-bin for repeated infringements.
Alcester are next in action against Manor Park on Saturday, December 13 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Kings Coughton.
