ALVECHURCH lost for the sixth away game in a row in the league following a narrow 2-1 defeat at Stratford Town.

Quickfire goals from Owen James and Josh Hawker put Stratford in command at the break only for Jez Abbey to halve the deficit for the visitors after the interval at the Arden Garages Stadium.

The result means Alvechurch sit 18th in the Southern League Premier Central table, three points clear of the relegation zone.

Stratford broke the deadlock on 35 minutes when James reacted quickest to turn home a loose ball after Dan Vann saw his fierce effort turned onto the post by Redman Evans.

And the Bards doubled their lead four minutes later as Hawker’s acrobatic effort following some head tennis in the box put the Bards in control.

Church responded after the break on 57 minutes when Abbey beat the offside trap and finished well past Jake Weaver.

Alvechurch are next in action against Stourbridge on Saturday, January 3 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
