ALCESTER RFC cruised to a 38-0 bonus point win against Droitwich as the visitors stretched their unbeaten run to six matches.

All of the game’s points came in the second half at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground as Lewis Wright scored a hat-trick of tries while Will Silk, Ieuan Hopkin and Max Biltcliffe also dotted down.

The result means Alcester sit second in the Counties One Midlands West (South) table, 11 points behind leaders Worcester.

Droitwich went closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half as Alcester held up a home attack over the try line.

A number of flashpoints arose in the first period as Alcester lost Nigel Burrows to the sin-bin while a Droitwich player also received a yellow card.

And the visitors then lost Oscar Holland to injury which forced Biltcliffe to step into the fly-half position.

Droitwich pushed again before the break but Alcester held firm to ensure the first period ended in a stalemate.

However, Alcester took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half as Wright scored the game’s first try and Jamie Harland converted.

And the visitors scored again straight from the restart when Silk touched down and Harland added the extras.

Droitwich lost another player to the sin-bin following a dangerous tackle on Biltcliffe.

And the away side made the most of the extra man almost immediately when captain Hopkin dotted down and Harland converted.

Harland almost grabbed a try for himself before Biltcliffe scored Alcester’s bonus point try.

Tempers boiled over again as both teams lost a player to the sin-bin with Silk singled out for Alcester.

And with both teams still a man down, Droitwich had a player sent off following an incident at a ruck.

Wright took full advantage late on to score two tries and complete his hat-trick as the visitors cruised to a comfortable win.

Alcester are next in action against Kidderminster Carolians on Saturday, January 31 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Marlpool Lane.

Elsewhere, the club’s second XV won 15-5 against Camp Hill 2nds to avenge their defeat against the same opponents from earlier in the season.

All of the points came in the first half of the game as brothers Freddie and George White both dotted down while Jamie Clarke crossed for Alcester’s third try.

And Alcester’s third XV lost 47-5 away at Leamington as the club fielded three teams on the same weekend for the first time this campaign.

Alcester’s only try came courtesy of Steve Downs with the match reduced to a 13-a-side contest owing to an injury and lack of numbers.
