ALVECHURCH Youth Sunday United u10s lifted their first trophy of the season when they beat Leafield Colts U10s in a closely-fought match.
A cold crisp morning awaited the sides in the winner takes all match for two teams who were undefeated in Group D.
Leafield started the brightest forcing Charlie into some world class saves. Alvechurch started slowly and in truth we were lucky to go in at half time level .
The second half started better for ‘Church as nerves settled and they moved the ball around much better, attacking the Leafield goal more and more.
After a quick break from Leafield they forced a goal in which left Alvechurch looking dejected.
The boys rolled their sleeves up and huffed and puffed but to no avail until five minutes to go when a free kick was awarded just inside the halfway line.
With memories of the David Beckham goal against Greece, up stepped Noah who smashed it in from 35 yards straight in the top corner to make it game on.
The last few minutes saw both teams push for the goal but it was not forthcoming, forcing the game into extra time.
Alvechurch started pushing Leafield back and, with a slick five-pass move, up stepped Jack who rifled in the winner to the delight of the team.
Coach Lee Kesterton praised his side for their great achievement and for being undefeated in six games so far this season – scoring 32 goals while only conceding one goal so far.
“All the boys have been excellent this year and the hard work they have put in is starting to reap rewards,” said Lee.
