Hard graft pays off for Millers

FECKENHAM assistant boss Tom Davies said hard work had proved the key to Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Bloxwich Town in Midland League Division Two.

Ryan Edwards bagged the winner in the 74th minute to earn the Millers a third league win of the campaign and Davies is looking for more of the same commitment in Saturday’s home game against high-flying Fairfield Villa.

“Aaron (Blackwood, manager) and I are happy with the response we got off the boys after the defeat to Sutton United,” said Davies.

“We knew that we’d have to work very hard against a strong side and thought we were unlucky to come in at half time all square.

“We rode our luck a little in the second half, gifting too many chances which on another day may have been taken, but we worked hard throughout and took our chance when it came.

“As a group we are now looking forward to a strong test against Fairfield Villa.”

On Saturday, Feckenham had much of the ball in the first half and Jack Brimmell went close to scoring before 17-year-old striker Adam Garmson fired just wide.

Just before the break winger Ben Cox thought he had won a penalty for the Millers when he was bundled to the ground, but was astonished to find the referee had a different verdict.

Bloxwich were much-improved in the second half but it was Feckenham who secured maximum points when Edwards powerfully headed home from Cox’s corner.
