Millers bolstered by return of key faces

Redditch Editorial 11th Oct, 2017   0

FECKENHAM hope to have a host of players back for Saturday’s Midland League Division Two clash at Droitwich.

The mid-table Millers go into the game on the back of three successive defeats, the latest of which was Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Division Three leaders GNP Sports in the Les James Challenge Cup.

Boss Aaron Blackwood was without a host of names with Ben Welsh, Max Tibbins, Jordan Adams, Danny Murphy, Umit Eminoglu, captain Danny Williams, Ben Ellicott, George Tolley (injured) and Connor Perry-Holmes (suspended) all unavailable, so in came new signings Robbie Davies and Nick Briggs, whilst Blackwood promoted talented 16-year-olds Daniel Sutton and Logan Madden into the squad.

A second half goal against the run of play from Connoll Farrell proved the difference between the sides, but the result was harsh on Feckenham who did everything but score.

Jordan Hartley thundered a 25-yard strike against the bar in the first half for the hosts and Briggs fired just wide, before the latter also headed against the bar in the second period on what was a luckless afternoon for the Millers.

There was still time for Hartley to strike the bar again in the closing stages, but clearly it was not the home side’s day.

Joint assistant boss Tom Davies said: “It wasn’t a game full of clearcut chances but first half I thought the new lads coming in up top caused a lot of problems with their movement and appetite.

“We defended well throughout the majority of the game and a moment’s lapse during a transition unfortunately cost us the opportunity to get a positive result.

“We’re back in league action this weekend with a large squad to pick from and, with competition for places very high, we’ll be expecting a good performance from those chosen.”
