IN an abbreviated week when there were no Yardley Wood Superleague fixtures and both teams had their Heart of England Over-60s matches postponed due to bad weather, Alcester could only muster a single win.
This came in Division Four of the S&W Birmingham Over-60s league, when the A team had an excellent 47-shot success at home to Wythall B.
Jean Bannister and John Slater lead the way with superb 21-7 cards and Margaret D’Elia and Geoff Spiers were almost as good with 21-9 and 21-11 victories respectively.
Alcester took eight points to Wythall’s two.
It was cup week in the Heart of England League, but Alcester A and B both bowed out.
The A team exited in the first round proper of the main cup competition, losing by 45 shots to Baldwin without a securing a single winning card.
The B team did little better, losing by 31 shots to White Hart B in the first round of the Consolation Cup.
They did, however have a couple of winners in Jean Sherrington (21-13) and Rick Horton (21-16).
In the first of the club’s domestic competitions, Gill Evans and John Slater won the Pairs Non-Handicap. recording a 21-16 success over Gill Spiers and Bob LeResche.
