BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH Athletic Club’s throws coach Sam Cater won an age group gold medal at the British Masters Throws Pentathlon in Sheffield.

Cater’s score of 2,240 points was a new club record and topped a fine Saturday for B&R in the Steel City as Julie Wakelam and Vito Ricci also impressed against some of the leading masters athletes in the country.

Athletes competed in a series of throws to gain points for the distance thrown. The events were hammer, shot put, discus, javelin and heavy weights throw.

At the end of the long, hot day of slinging, putting and chucking, B&R athletes came away with club records and medals as Wakelam secured a bronze medal in her age group with 2,818 points – just 38 shy of her club record.

Ricci was fourth in his age group with 1,802 points, which is a new club record.
