FOOTBALL - Studley FC remain top with win against Shortwood United

STUDLEY FC continued their charge for the Hellenic League Division One title with a 2-0 victory at home to Shortwood United.

Odane Barnes and Josh Westwood struck for Studley either side of half time to secure another comfortable victory at the Beehive.

And the result means Studley remain top of the table, three points clear of second place Worcester Raiders who have played the same number of games.

Studley started the better of the two teams, forcing Shortwood goalkeeper Rob Sims into making a number of saves with the visitors unable to breach the Bees defence.

And Barnes eventually broke the deadlock on 32 minutes when he robbed his marker on the edge of the penalty area before rounding the keeper to put the home side one-nil up at the interval.

Shortwood struggled to create a clear-cut chance in the second period with Studley trying to catch their opponents on the break.

And the goal duly arrived on 76 minutes when Westwood chipped Sims having been played through by Samuel Jackson having hit the post moments earlier.

Studley are next in action against Stonehouse Town tonight (Tuesday, March 1) with kick-off at 7.45pm at Oldends Lane.
