FOOTBALL - Redditch United finish campaign with goalless draw at Biggleswade

REDDITCH United finished their season with a drab goalless draw away at already relegated Biggleswade Town.

The Reds were unable to make the breakthrough at Langford Road as Matt Clarke’s side secured a 15th place finish in the Southern League Premier Central table.

United started the game on the front foot and almost scored inside the opening minute when Jack Byrne’s flicked header was saved before Kieron Dawes went close from the rebound.

And Redditch had the ball in the net on two minutes only for Victor Sodeinde’s effort to be ruled out for offside.

The home side almost broke the deadlock when Francis Mampolo weaved through the Reds defence before striking an effort against the post.

United spurned a good chance to take the lead shortly before half time when Sodeinde was played through on goal before seeing his effort saved by Biggleswade goalkeeper Josh Hill when one-on-one.

And the Reds were denied another goal by the offside flag when Tom Hewlett flicked home Ryan Edmunds’ initial shot.

The hosts struck the woodwork for a second time when Robert Parker’s shot cannoned back off the crossbar after Reds keeper Kieran Boucher had made a brilliant save to keep out a long range effort.
