Horse racing fans love the Grand National.

It brings together all the best horses, trainers and jockeys to compete for the best prizes.

The quality of racing is the best at the Aintree Grand National, which is hugely popular among punters who get a chance to bet on their favourite horses.

1- Fred Rimell

Fred Rimell is one of the most successful trainers in the long history of the Grand National. The British expert won the prestigious race an incredible four times. He achieved this incredible feat with four different horses.

Fred Rimell claimed his first victory at Aintree in extraordinary circumstances.

Devon Loch was looking certain to win the race in 1956 after he established a good lead and was just a few feet away from the finishing line.

However, to the huge surprise of all the spectators, Devon Loch suddenly jumped in the air and belly-flopped to the ground.

This allowed E.S.B. to win the race easily, with Rimell tasting his first victory at Aintree.

The great British trainer claimed the prestigious race five years later at the 1961 Grand National.

This time it was Nicolaus Silver who blew the competition away and won the race for him. Gay Trip was the third horse that claimed the title in 1970 for Rimell.

However, the 1976 Grand National was the most memorable moment for Fred Rimell.

That was the year when the legendary Red Rum was also participating.

However, Rag Trade got the best of the legendary horse, and thus Rimell bagged his fourth Grand National title.

2- Ginger McCain

Ginger McCain is also a huge name in the horse racing world.

Like Rimell, he also has the distinction of winning the Grand National on four occasions.

However, while his counterpart won the prestigious race with four different horses, most of the victories for McCain came with one horse only – the legendary Red Rum.

It happened in 1972 that McCain noticed that an inconsistent horse was put on a sale at an auction.

The English trainer saw potential in him and spent 6000 guineas to buy him on behalf of Noel Le Mare.

What happened next was extraordinary as he trained Red Rum to run him in the Grand National and there he became tremendously successful.

Red Rum didn’t start as a favourite when he first entered the 1973 Grand National.

However, he managed to defeat his rival Crisp by a narrow margin.

The manner in which he managed this feat was quite incredible. Crisp had created a huge lead and his victory had looked absolutely certain. However, Red Rum came with a thundering speed and ultimately beat him by a narrow margin.

Ginger McCain won the following year’s race at Aintree too with Red Rum. However, people started questioning his abilities when he finished second in 1975 and 1976 editions of the race. But McCain had faith in Red Rum and let him participate in the 1977 Grand National.

The great racehorse repaid his trainer’s faith in him and blew the competition away to clinch his third Grand National title.

This way, he became the first horse in history to achieve a historic treble. The closest another horse came to breaking his record was Tiger Roll who claimed back-to-back victories at Aintree in 2018 and 2019.

Ginger McCain failed to add any more titles until Amberleigh House won the prestigious race in 2004 for him. Thus, he equalled Fred Rimell’s record of winning four Grand National titles

3- Vincent O’Brien

Lionel Messi has immortalised his name in the world of football by winning some of the greatest trophies and awards. He has such a massive fan following that even is Messi autistic generates a huge interest among people.

Likewise, Vincent O’Brien has also immortalised his name in the world of horse racing by achieving enormous successes in the Grand National.

He has the distinction of winning three successive Grand Nationals with three different horses.

His first success at Aintree came with Early Mist who won the 1953 edition of the race. He repeated the amazing feat the following year with Royal Tan. Horse racing fans were shocked when Vincent O’Brien won his third title with Quare Times who gallped to victory in 1955.
