FOOTBALL - Studley exit FA Cup after late Rugby defeat

STUDLEY were knocked out of the FA Cup at the Preliminary Round stage after falling to a 2-1 defeat at home to Rugby Town.

The home side started the game the better of the two teams and almost broke the deadlock after just two minutes when Joe Blowers hit the crossbar.

And the Bees took a deserved lead on 28 minutes when captain Dan Carter turned his man before firing into the roof of the net from 18-yards out.

However, Rugby were much improved in the second half and scored a superb equaliser as Kolodynski volleyed low into the net from Dan Summerfield’s exquisite whipped cross from the left.

And Rugby completed the comeback eight minutes from time when Recci slotted home from close range from Ryan Seal’s driven corner.

That came after the Bees were thrashed 3-0 by Tividale in the Midland Football League Premier Division despite shading a close first half which ended goalless.

However, Tividale capitalised on a defensive mistake early in the second half to take the lead before a wicked deflection helped the home side double their advantage.

Despite Studley pressing to reduce the deficit, Tividale scored again via the aid of another deflection to settle the game and inflict a first league defeat on the Bees this season.

Studley are next in action away at AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday, August 27 with kick-off at 3pm at Castlecroft Stadium.
