ALCESTER RFC claimed a comprehensive 31-0 win away at Woodrush to move top of the Counties 2 Midlands West (South) table.
Mark Burrell ran in two tries for the visitors with Max Biltcliffe, Oscar Holland and Tommy Wright also dotting down in a bonus point victory.
The result means Alcester lead the way in the Counties 2 Midlands West (South) table having won all three of their league matches this season.
And the visitors made a fast start when Burrell opened the scoring after 10 minutes only to miss the resulting conversion and a penalty kick shortly after.
However, Burrell crossed for his second try to double Alcester’s lead with Ed Gough adding the extras to hand Alcester a 12-point lead at the break.
To sum up Woodrush’s day, the home side failed to kick the ball 10-metres from the restart at the beginning of the second period.
And birthday boy Biltcliffe then scored Alcester’s third try after a period of pressure on the Woodrush line.
The home side almost troubled the scoreboard when a kick to the corner was superbly cut out by outside centre Holland who made a try-saving rip of the ball.
And Holland then crossed for Alcester’s bonus point try at the other end with Gough’s conversion extending the visitors’ lead.
The scoring was complete when Wright crashed over late on with Gough’s conversion securing a 31-point victory.
Alcester are next in action away at Bromyard on Saturday, September 24 with kick-off at 3pm at the Clive Richards Sports Ground.
Elsewhere, Alcester’s 2nd XV were edged out 36-34 by Berkswell and Balsall in a thrilling contest that ended in unusual circumstances.
Alcester thought they had drawn level with a conversion at the death and despite the referee initially awarding the kick, Berkswell appealed the decision and persuaded the official to overturn his initial call with the extras chalked off.
Adrian ‘Dexie’ Derrick, Kyle Derry, Glynn Smith, Matt Stone, Ollie Hopkins and Scott McGee all crossed for tries whilst Smith added two conversions in a narrow two-point defeat.
Debutant Jake Field suffered a nasty leg break during the game and the whole club would like to wish him well in his recovery.
