ALVECHURCH moved further clear of the relegation zone with a comfortable 2-0 win against Bedford Town on Non-League Day.
Second-half goals from Tom Edge and Jack Concannon sealed the points for Ian Long’s side at Lye Meadow as Church moved eight points clear of the Southern League Premier Cenreal drop zone.
And the win lifts Alvechurch up to 13th in the table having inflicted an eighth successive defeat on relegation-threatened Bedford.
However, Bedford spurned a golden chance to take the lead when Lucas Kirkpatrick was fouled in the box only for Connor Tomlinson to shoot wide from the penalty spot shortly before half time.
And Church made the visitors pay for this missed penalty on 52 minutes when Edge poked home from six-yards out after Bedford goalkeeper Lewis Elsom could only push Remi Walker’s dangerous free-kick into the scorer’s path.
The home side wrapped up the win on 85 minutes when substitute Concannon rifled the ball home from Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton’s pass.
Alvechurch are next in action at home to Royston Town on Tuesday, March 28 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
