CLASSIC Baroque with Orchestra of the Swan String Quintet comes to the Palace Theatre in Redditch next Thursday, May 23.
Bridging the transition from the Renaissance into the era of Beethoven, the Baroque period, roughly 1600 to 1750, brought us some of the most beautiful and most memorable, melodies ever written – none more famous, perhaps than Pachelbel’s contemplative Canon or Bach’s restful Air.
However, it is Vivaldi’s Four Seasons that linger longest in the heart and mind: bridging the year from rousing spring to frosty winter.
The programme includes: Vivaldi – Concerto for 2 violins in A minor; Pachelbel – Canon; Purcell – Chacony in G minor; Bach – Air on the G string; Vivaldi – Guitar Concerto; Vivaldi – The Four Seasons.
With Mark Ashford on guitar and David Le Page on violin and directing, it promises to be a wonderful night out with the Stratford-based quintet.
The concert starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £21 or £11 for children under 16 and music students in person from the box office, by calling 01527 65203 or by visiting www.redditch palacetheatre.co.uk.
