Come and join us! Bel Canto Singers of Redditch to host open evening

Redditch Editorial 15th Jun, 2017   0

IN their continuing search for new members, local Redditch choir Bel Canto Singers are holding an open evening for people to come along and just sing.

“We’re a community choir based in Redditch and, if the evidence of last year’s demand for concerts is anything to go by, becoming increasingly popular,” said Bel Canto’s chair Polly Speer.

“We currently have about 40 members, but we’d love to welcome more.

“We sing a varied mix of popular songs, comedy numbers, choral pieces and extracts form musicals and light opera.”

The event is on Monday, June 19 at 7.15pm at Crabbs Cross Methodist Church, Redditch, B97 5LD.

The choir’s fund-raising year culminated in a sell-out concert at Cookhill Village Hall last month.

At this event a cheque for £700 was presented to Ian Marshall on behalf of the trustees of Primrose Hospice, the choir’s chosen charity for that year.

This figure included a generous contribution from Thomas Bros Funeral Parlour and a further £200 was donated directly by the Palace Theatre, Redditch, following a concert in November featuring the Bel Canto Singers.

The chosen charity for this year’s fund-raising is the Blue Cross pet rehoming centre in Catshill.

And Polly is upbeat about the choir’s future and would welcome new members: “No experience is required and prospective members don’t need to be able to read music.

“So anyone who enjoys singing, particularly men, and would like to join a friendly, welcoming choir, should come along.

“We’d be delighted to welcome them.”
