IF YOU want to put a little bit of perfection into your life, try Afternoon Tea at the Southcrest Hotel.
It may be pure indulgence but as a treat it’s one you’ve undoubtably earned and it’s also something you’re unlikely ever to forget.
Last Friday (August 12) we were lucky enough to put it to the test and came away doubly satisfied and clutching a doggy bag of goodies we couldn’t quite manage to tuck away in one sitting.
On the menu for us were the Savoury and Royal Afternoon Tea options, both at £14.95 per person and both truly sumptious offerings arranged on three tiers in the style of a three course dinner.
While both top tiers were topped with warm scones with jam and deliciously thick clotted cream plus a pair of tasty treats, as the name suggests, the Savoury option had a middle tier with a brace each of mini beefburgers (our favourite) pork pie and pickle, honey glazed pigs in blankets and feta and red peper mini quiches – to name just a selection.
For those with a sweeter tooth, the Royal features mini chocolate orange sponge cakes, caramel eaton mess, a stunning trio of chocolate terrine and red velvet roulades – to name a few.
Both options start with smoked salmon on a toasted multi grain bagel and a roulade of farmhouse ham and of course – lashings of tea.
Our verdict – simply lovely, and, sitting in the charming surroundings of the Southcrest dining room overlooking the rear grounds, the setting was absolutely charming.
Finally, to make the afternoon go with a swing the hotel is also offering a 75cl bottle of Italia Prosecco for £14.99 (normal price £21.95).
