Help create a Paolozzi style mosaic with Redditch's Indigo Arts

Redditch Editorial 2nd Jun, 2017   0

INDIGO Arts has launched a Paolozzi inspired project for Childrens Art Week 2017, running from June 10-18, inviting children and their families to help create their own mosaic based on something that inspires them about Redditch. Each child will get to create a small section of the final mosaic artwork, which will go on show in its own Pop Up Gallery in the Centre on Sunday, June 18.

Indigo will be down in Milward Square beneath the town centre’s stunning Paolozzi Mosaics, on the weekends of June 10 & 11 and June 17, before moving in to the Pop Up Gallery with the finished piece on the Sunday.

There will also be chance to get involved with the project down at the Vintage Bandstand event on the afternoon of June 10.

Paolozzi’s mosaics were unveiled in 1983, and were created by the artist to reflect the industry, development and progress of the town.

Indigo are encouraging the town’s young community to create their own representations of what is good about the town, bringing their own symbols, designs and colour to the mosaic, directly representing buildings or spaces they love, or conjuring up symbolic images of a range of thoughts, feelings, or experiences which arise from being a part of the Redditch community. The more people who get involved, the more exciting this project will become.

Drop in on the activity run by Indigo over any of the weekend sessions, and bring your ideas ready to add a little to the whole work. Watch out for further details as to the location of the Pop Up Gallery showing the final piece.

Pay a visit to the mosaics in the Kingfisher before then, and read the information provided by the Kingfisher Centre on the artist, and the ideas behind this amazing piece of art. Then simply get thinking before 10th June about what inspires you about our town.
