Redditch’s position as a thriving business town in the UK continues to cement itself, with organisations like Redditch BID helping to spur a competitive and creative space. Rocking up with a particularly grand spectacle on 13 September, the 2025 Redditch Business Awards are a prime example of this in action.
Just by looking at the awards given out, it’s clear that the ceremony is one of the levers being pulled to spur businesses onwards and upwards in the area. Other more external forces will be playing a role, too, but even if you look at just the most recent additions to Redditch, it’s clear to see that the levels of competition are ramping up.
Powering up Business through Competition
Our town is filled with storied businesses that have embedded themselves in the community, as well as newcomers looking to bring something different and appealing to Redditch. In just the first week of September, in fact, two new businesses opened their doors, welcoming locals to try out their new offering.
On Friday 5 September, the new Bensons for Beds store at Washford Trade Park brought in a whole host of bed-seeking customers. With opening day discounts ready to be claimed, the focus of the business is helping people to find ideal affordable bed solutions. The Redditch store opening follows their success in other parts of the county.
The very next day, on Saturday 6 September, Market Place got a brand new fish and chip shop. Mother Hubbard’s put on a special offer for the big day, giving 50 per cent off on everything. That includes their famous, much-lauded giant fish and chips, which requires a pizza box for serving.
Next year, both of these may be in the running for the competition-stoking Redditch Business Awards. The latest ceremony covered all forms of business, with some of the more open awards being the Business of the Year, Independent Business of the Year, and Creative Business of the Year. It’s these categories that encourage an even greater level of competition and innovation in the local area.
Seeking Ways to Increase Competitiveness

Competition is key to businesses continuing to seek and apply innovative ideas, which in turn is essential to broader economic growth. History and basic economic theory showcase this, so anything that encourages further competition is good for business overall. In Redditch, you have new businesses arriving to try to set a new bar, as well as the annual business awards.
For businesses that also deal in the digital space, the internet has upped the levels of competition immensely in the past two decades. Without physical restraints – to a degree – and a whole world of competition, businesses that go online today have to find creative ways of standing out to stay afloat. This is why promotions and bonuses have become so commonplace.
Looking to land new customers and retain them, many successful businesses will offer plenty of perks to users, both right at the start and further down the line. The suite of bingo promotions online is an apt example of this. Newcomers can see their £10 deposit transform into £40 of bingo and 200 bonus spins, while, after that, returning customers can find promos for live bingo offering £9,999 for a full house, a daily treasure chest prize, a big wheel spin for prizes, and more. It’s all about being uniquely appealing from the get-go, and then continuing those efforts.
As with the newer arrivals to Redditch, challenging on price and offering discounts will appeal to a huge audience. Any business, either largely land-based or online, should therefore strongly consider how they can both convert new customers and retain them with promotions and marketing such as the aforementioned in order to take full advantage of these exciting times for the region.
Exploring ways to become more competitive is key to advancing local business. In Redditch, not only are there plenty of businesses competing, but Redditch BID is ready to give awards to those who’re the best in class.
