Ink in a date for Jess's vocal performance workshops in Redditch

INDIGO arts launches its ‘Vocal Ink’ workshops on Thursday, September 17, when professional poet and spoken word artist and director, Jess Davies, joins the arts organisation to inspire and encourage budding writers and performers.
Jess, who has been a familiar face, and voice of the Birmingham spoken word and poetry scene for some time now, has returned to Indigo where she was previously a workshop member before leaving for Uni and becoming an arts professional.
She aims to repeat her Birmingham successes in building the genre, here in her hometown, and is looking for people who have an interest in creative writing and poetry to join her on the mission!
September sees the launch of a pilot series of informal workshops exploring creative writing techniques, including looking at the work of others in the field, sharing and developing skills, building confidence with a view to performance, leading to the opportunity to perform work developed at the end of the sessions, for those confident enough to do so.
The sessions are aimed at anybody who has an interest, whether they be complete beginners, with no experience, or those who have writing they would like to share, and perform as part of the development of the group.
If the sessions prove successful Indigo will incorporate the provision in to its mainstream activities from next year, and run regular showcase evenings where poets and spoken word artists can share their skills and creations with the rest of the community.
Initial workshops will be for 11 – 15 year olds, and for those 16 years and over, there is no age limit! If there is demand from younger members Indigo is happy to look at extending the age range. Please direct any enquiries to Cathy at: [email protected] .
Taster sessions will be run on Thursday 17 September, where everyone is welcome to drop in and find out more about what will be going on, chat to Jess and the Indigo team, and sample a session.
The 11-15 years sessions will run from 6pm – 7.30pm, and the 16 and over from 7.45pm until 9.15pm. Sessions will be at the Indigo arts Base, on the Redditch Tudor Grange Academy site.
