Palace Youth Theatre launches Becky on her career path in drama

A PALACE Youth Theatre member who has just received an unconditional offer for her chosen university, is encouraging other youngsters to get involved with the group.

Becky Exley, who joined PYT in 2011, was offered an unconditional place to De Montfort University this week to study Drama from September and believes the group helped her achieve her goals.

Becky has been involved in stage productions with the group and has played roles including the Genie in Aladdin and the ‘Beast’s Maid’ in the RSC version of Beauty and the Beast.

She also helped in the production of various shows as assistant director and stage manager.

“Over the last eight years, PYT has helped me to be more confident, creative and develop and learn new skills,” she said.

“I’ve been given opportunities and I was able to play dream roles, such as Disney’s Genie, that I never thought I’d have.

“As well as being on the stage, I was introduced to stage managing and fell in love with doing it. It’s because of PYT that I now want to learn more about this and potentially do more in the future.

“I believe that it is because of the confidence and skills PYT has given me that I was able to secure a place at my top choice university to go on and study later this year.

“The staff are absolutely brilliant and will push you so you can achieve and reach your full potential. To join the youth theatre was the best decision I’ve ever made.”

The PYT sessions include ‘Rise and Shine’ for five to eight-year-olds, ‘On Stage’ for eight to 18-year-olds which is the main performance group.

Plus there is also ‘Out There’ for eight to 18-year-olds which focuses core skills and learning in depth drama techniques and ‘AIM’ for 16 to 30-year-olds for young adults with learning disabilities.

Young performers aged eight to 18, looking for something to keep them busy in the summer can also take a trip down a rabbit hole, join in with the mad-hatter’s tea party and play croquet with the Queen of Hearts by signing up for the Palace Youth Theatre’s two week summer school, Alice in Wonderland.

More details about each session, including prices, are available at www.redditchpalacetheatre.co.uk/palace-youth-theatre.
