Redditch Editorial 30th Nov, 2019   0

‘CAROLS from Europe’ will be ringing out across town soon as Redditch Choral Society get ready for their Christmas concert.

Hand-picked by director of music Emily Tyrell they’ve delighted society members in rehearsal and they’re confident they’ll bring joy to the heart of concert-goers.

The evening performance is on Saturday, December 7 at 7.30pm at Trinity High School in the town centre and Emily has christened the evening ‘Carols from Europe’ to demonstrate the links between the different European families of Redditch.

The selection includes carols and pieces from both English and European composers with Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on Christmas Carols and Edward Elgar’s A Christmas Greeting as well as Carols by John Joubert ‘Torches’ and others.

In addition the RCS will sing European carols from Poland, Austria, Ukraine and Norway with ‘Ecce Novum’ by Ola Gjeilo a gorgeous piece to look out for. Mendelssohn’s ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ and other well-known carols will be there to encourage audience participation!

The professional orchestra will be led, as usual by Peter Bridle.

The orchestra will accompany the choir and also play ‘Christmas Concert’ by Corelli.

A professional soloist, baritone Andrew Randall will sing with the choir and Mike Gittus BEM will be the compere.

The children from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Studley, conducted by Helen Tyrrell, will add enjoyment by singing some of the carols – possibly one of them in Polish!

Trinity High School is just off Grove Street and is a cosy and comfortable venue with plenty of free parking.

Tickets are £12 / £10 concessions, including refreshments and are available by calling 07794 362956.

Accompanied children are free.
