Support work leads to award for Redditch school

REDDITCH’S St George’s First School and Nursery has received national recognition for its excellent work in supporting children with nurture groups.

The school has been awarded the prestigious Marjorie Boxall Quality Mark Award by UK-wide charity the Nurture Group Network.

The accolade is awarded to schools which demonstrate exemplary practice in supporting a range of pupil needs in their school nurture groups. Nurture groups are in-school classes that help children overcome barriers to making the most of school and learning.

On presenting the award the charity’s chief executive Mr Kibble, said: “These awards are very hard won and show an exceptional dedication, not just to learning, but also to the well-being and development of all children.

“Their ‘Busy Bugs’ class is a vital element in what makes St George’s a thoroughly nurturing school. A brilliant achievement that reflects positively on the pupils, staff, parents and governors.

Headteacher Caroline Redfern said: “We are so proud of our Nurture Group. All staff work hard to support pupils and their families to feel valued and to gain in confidence and it is wonderful to see how pupils blossom during their time in ‘Busy Bugs’.

“This award, together with the Achievement for All Quality Mark and Leading Parent Partnership Award, also received in the last year, all serve to demonstrate our whole school commitment to supporting our pupils and their families.”
