Ready for the upcoming Grand National? There’ll be some 150,000 horse racing fans descending upon Aintree for three days of world-class racing.
The event takes place from Thursday, April 13 through Saturday, April 15, and promises to be one of the sporting (and social) events of the year.
If this is your first time attending the event, then this is the page for you.
Below, we’ve run through three key pieces of information to know before you make your trip.

Understand the Story
The Grand National is not your usual horse racing event. In fact, it’s not just one of the biggest events on the horse racing 2023 calendar; it’s one of the world’s most historic and prestigious national hunt events.
It was first held way back in 1839, and since then has been responsible for some of the most captivating horse races the world has ever seen.
Its unpredictability and the challenging nature of the course have led it to be nicknamed “The World’s Greatest Steeplechase.”
In other words: this is a big deal.
It Takes Place Over Several Days
When people think of “the Grand National,” they usually think of the main race, which will take place at 5:15 on Saturday, April 15.
But in fact, the term “the Grand National” actually refers to the entire festival, which takes place over three days.
You don’t have to attend on “the main day” to have the full experience.
In fact, many people prefer to attend “Ladies Day,” which takes place on Friday.
This day can be a good choice for first-timers since it provides world-class racing in a slightly more relaxed atmosphere.
But needless to say, you’ll have a great time no matter which day you decide to visit.
It’s a Party
The racing takes centre stage at the Grand National. But there’s a big social element, too.
Actually, the best way to describe the festival would be a “party with horse racing.”
You’ll get out what you put in, so be sure to grab your friends, put on your best clothes (suits for the gents, dresses with a hat for the ladies), and get ready to have some fun.
Once the racing is over, head into Liverpool for a memorable evening spent on the town with thousands of other people.
It’s one of the biggest nights on Liverpool’s calendar, and you’ll surely have a fantastic time.
