Birmingham Children's Hospital fund-raising efforts earns West Midlands Trains prestigious 'Red Balloon' award

WEST Midlands Trains (WMT) has been awarded a Red Balloon by Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity as thanks for the fundraising support they give them.

The firm, which operates West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway, has supported the Children’s Hospital for many years, and last year raised £14,160 for them through various fundraising activities.

They set up a colleague donation scheme and began collecting money at stations across the WMT network.

Last March WMT joined a new charitable scheme, Pennies from Heaven, where each month employees donate extra pennies from their salary to the charity.

And WMT has seen the number of staff participating grow every month.

WMT’s head of internal communications and engagement, Andy Parry, said: “Pennies from Heaven is a great scheme, and we are thrilled to see so many of our employees showing their support.

“We are very proud of the money we have been able to raise for our Brummie neighbours at Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital Charity and are extremely excited to learn how the money will be used.

“It is a real honour to accept a Red Balloon for our efforts and we thank everyone involved enormously.”

WMT is also promoting a cycle challenge for several of its operational managers known as the ‘Bonkers Bikers’, which will see them complete a two-day Coast to Coast cycle from Whitehaven to Whitley Bay to raise cash for The Railway Children Charity.
