LAST year saw the highest-ever number of Bowel Cancer screenings in Worcestershire, new figures show.

Three in four eligible adults have received screening in 2023.

The last two years have seen Worcestershire record significantly more bowel cancer screenings than the national average.

April marks Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.

According to Cancer Research UK, bowel cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in both men and women in the UK.

Screening can detect bowel cancer before symptoms appear, making it easier to treat and improving the chances of survival.

More information on screening and symptoms of bowel cancer is available on the NHS website.

Screening is available to everyone aged between 60 and 74 years old.

Lisa McNally, Director of Public Health in Worcestershire said: “We have seen a real upturn and a real positive change in our bowel cancer screening numbers over the last couple of years here in Worcestershire, which is great, as early detection is really important.

“But we can’t be complacent about this latest improvement. I’d encourage everyone who is eligible to take part in the screening programme. It’s straightforward to do with a home-test kit and it can literally save your life.”
