POLICE on bike patrols in Redditch arrested a woman on suspicion of shoplifiting after a number of reported thefts in the town centre.

The team was alerted to items being taken from shops on the Trafford Retail Park and arrived on the scene and made the arrest within six minutes.

The call came in at 12.07pm and the woman was arrested and detained at 12.13pm.

She was charged with several offences and remanded in custody for court.

The police said it should be a warning to thieves and shoplifters of how quick the Safer Neighbourhood Team is on its push bikes.

Last month, Redditch BID funded five new bikes for police officers to make them quicker at responding to incidents in the town centre.

Insp Richard Field, from Redditch Police SNT, said: “Top work by the officers involved and it shows the benefits of this great partnership with Redditch BID.”
