New ways of catching fly-tippers being examined after three massive rubbish dumps in Wythall

NEW ways of catching fly-tippers are being looked into after Wythall became plagued by three massive rubbish dumps in a matter of days.

Bromsgrove District Council will be targeting unlicensed waste collectors who ply their trade through social media sites and innovative DNA testing is also being explored with a view to catching serial offenders.

The moves follow urgent talks between Bromsgrove District Council cabinet members Coun Adam Kent and Coun Margaret Sherrey, council officers and the police.

In the past week rubbish has been dumped in Tanners Green Lane, Gay Hill Lane and Icknield Street which led to the road becoming completely blocked.

Coun Kent, who also covers the area on the county council, said he felt the area was targeted because of its close proximity to Birmingham.

“There is nothing the residents of Bromsgrove abhor more than fly-tippers.

“We live in a beautiful area and are all proud of our Worcestershire Countryside and to see it desecrated by rubbish from Birmingham is soul destroying.”

Coun Sherrey added: “This is without doubt environmental criminality – it’s clear that the fly-tipping is often commercial in nature and anyone using unlicensed rubbish collectors via social media is as liable for the fly tipping as those that tip it.

“We work hard to clear up these sites as soon as it happens but why should the residents of

Bromsgrove District have to cover the costs of criminals from outside our area, it’s time we held them to account and you can be certain we will do everything possible to bring these people to justice.”

The pair have urged anyone aware of any unlicensed waste collectors operating in Bromsgrove District or anyone with information on the fly-tipping incidents in Wythall to report it here. https://www.bromsgrove.gov.uk/my-place/street-cleaning/fly-tipping.aspx

Those witnessing fly-tipping should get as any details as possible, including the exact location of the rubbish, how much there is, what it looks like, the dates and times of any dumpings, how many people were involved, what they looked like and what they were doing.

When it comes to any vehicles involved, people should note down the make, model, colour and registration numbers.

Details of where witnesses were when they saw the incident, how far away they were and what kind of view they had should also be submitted.
