Police move to reassure public that social media posts about inter-school fighting in Redditch are fake

REDDITCH Police have moved to reassure the community that they are aware of the social media posts circulating about pre-arranged fights between local schools.

Officers have reviewed the information and have said  the posts appear to be AI-generated and intended to spread disinformation.

They have said they are working closely with local schools and partner agencies to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of young people.

Insp Richard Field, from the Redditch Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We understand that posts like this can cause concern within our communities.

“Anyone knowingly spreading fake or false information online may be committing an offence under the Online Safety Act.

“We will take the strongest possible action, using all available powers, to tackle any form of violence in our town – a place that I care deeply about.

“I would ask parents and carers to speak with their children about the risks of getting drawn into sharing or responding to these posts. What may seem like a silly post online can have serious consequences for their safety, their future careers, and even their ability to travel later in life.

“Officers will be outside schools and in the town centre throughout the day to offer reassurance, and members of the public are encouraged to speak with them if they have any concerns.”
