A BARBECUE, home made cakes and curry and more are all on the menu for a very special open day and fund raiser in aid of Leukaemia Care.

Organised by Dolphin Road Allotment Association, it is hoped that as many people as possible will come along and enjoy the event which will help a cause very close to their hearts.

For the Brady family, who’s daughter Jasmine is battling leukaemia, is one of their fellow allotment holders and members are hoping to give the charity a significant boost.

Jasmine brave fight against leukaemia was highlighted in the Redditch Standard on June 9.

The seven-year-old developed Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia last year after complaining about pain in her hip.

Worse was to follow when it was discovered she needed to have the highest intensity of treatment, including steroids, which gave her massive mood swings and insatiable hunger, to chemotherapy where she became listless and completely lost her appetite.

Despite it all the plucky youngster, whose courageous fight featured on the front cover of Leukaemia Care magazine, kept her spirits up.

She even persuaded her mum Karen to shave her head for Leukaemia Care after she herself lost hers due to the treatment, raising £900 in the process.

The Dolphin Road allotments open day is scheduled for Saturday, August 26 and will run from 11am to 2pm with good food, fun and games all promised – as well as some lovely vegetables.

Association secretary Barbara Nash said: “Last year we raised £400 for The Primrose Hospice and hope to raise a much larger sum this year.

“Dan and Karen are facing a parent’s worst nightmare, a very real threat to their child and as they are one of ours we want to show as much support as possible.”
