Redditch Editorial 17th Jul, 2024   0

BUSINESSES, voluntary groups and charities across Redditch are being urged to apply for small grants for projects which help tell people’s stories and create pride in a place.

The ‘ReNEW’ scheme has been launched by the borough council for people aged 16 and over to revive redundant spaces.

The programme aims to increase participation in arts and creative activities.

The aim is to establishing a relationship between local businesses and community groups to encourage new ways of delivering activities for local people.

Jane Earl, cultural compact chair for north east Worcestershire, said: “These small grants play a vital role in empowering those in our compact and within the community.”

Projects are encouraged to submit applications not related to the Heritage Open Days festival by September 2.

Alternatively, projects relating to the festival have been given a deadline of July 22 with an accelerated outcome.

Four out of nine project, were successfully awarded funds during the first round of grants, including activities from the British Asian’s Women’s Group, based at Sandy Croft and creating a community garden to Feckenham Parish Council.

The latter saw participants work with artist Julian Bull to enhance the appearance of Church Walk and memorialise the fallen trees removed as a part of work undertaken in Feckenham Church grounds.

Coun Juliet Smith, portfolio holder for leisure, said the first round of grants had been very successful

“I encourage anyone who has even an inkling of a project idea to get in touch with the ReNEW Team to see how you can be matched with other compact members to make your creative idea a reality and be part of the drive to change our town for the better.”

Redditch Borough Council leader, Coun Joe Baker, said he was very excited to see what could be achieved for the town, thanks to the grants programme.

“The upper limit being doubled in this round compared to the previous to £2,000 means there is real scope for big projects to take place.”

The ReNEW Small Grants project has received £33,000 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
