Three minor injury units to shut so staff can be redeployed to A&E Depts

THE Minor Injuries Unit at Evesham is to close and its staff redeployed to Accident and Emergency department at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The decision was made by the Clinical Commissioning Group covering Worcestershire and Herefordshire and comes in light on the continuing coronavirus crisis and its impact on hard pressed hospital staff.

Also temporarily closing is the MIU at Tenbury Hospital and the one in Ledbury. The MIUs in Ross on Wye and Leominster, closed in November 2019 to help deal with winter pressures will remain closed for the time being to support the response.

The CCG said the move comes due to the ‘very low number of patients attending the minor injury units across Herefordshire and Worcestershire’.

The MIUs in Malvern and Bromsgrove remain open and the Minor Injury Unit in Kidderminster is working under reduced opening times of 8am to 8pm.

In a statement the CCG said: “This means that the staff who currently work at the MIUs can be redeployed to other Accident and Emergency departments.

“This is important and helps us to maintain safe staffing levels, due to increasing numbers of NHS staff who are self-isolating, due to the recent national advice.

“For those patients who require urgent medical help please use the MIUs remaining open or contact NHS 111 online (https://111.nhs.uk/), or attend the MIUs in Malvern or Bromsgrove.”

Signage at Evesham and Tenbury MIUs above will list the alternative options.
