Wet Christmas rather than a white one as rain clouds continue to roll in

IT’S going to be a wet Christmas rather than white one in Worcestershire, according to the Met Office.

A yellow weather warning is currently in force for the county and further rain is expected into next week.

Gully emptiers, highways teams and tree contractors have been placed on standby by the County Council ready to support if and when they are needed.

Councillor Tony Miller, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for the Environment, said: “It would seem that Worcestershire residents may well be in for a wet Christmas this year, with flooding a real possibility, and preparations have begun to help us deal with the heavy rainfall that is expected over the coming days.

“Our highways teams work closely with partners including colleagues from the Environment Agency, district councils, Severn Trent Water and the emergency services during times of flooding and heavy rainfall.

“I’d encourage residents to ensure they know where their sandbags are stored locally, and to keep a regular eye on the forecast, and our social media channels for regular updates.”

When flooding is predicted, sandbags are available from The Depot, Aston Road, Bromsgrove, Cross Gates Depot, Redditch and the Lido Car Park in Worcester Road, Droitwich.
