REDDITCH United Ladies will host either Atherstone Rangers or Knowle after reaching the last eight of the Birmingham FA County Cup for the first time in their history.

The quarter-final will take place at the Trico Stadium on Sunday, February 18 and comes on the back of Sunday’s dramatic last 16 victory over league rivals Rugby Town who were beaten 4-3 on penalties after a 4-4 draw at the Trico.

Reds boss Gary Barrell said: “This was a fantastic advert for cup football, keenly contested between two evenly matched teams both eager to pursue cup glory and reach the latter stages of this prestigious competition.

“It was yet another sign of the continued faith placed in the youth by the club’s management team as the match day squad contained only four players aged over 19.”

Redditch led 3-1 at half time against their West Midlands Division One South counterparts thanks to an Amy Kendall double and Sofi Liperis goal, but the visitors hit back to lead 4-3 before Maisie Farr’s late strike took the match to penalties.

Player of the game for the Reds was young Abbie Bailey.

Table-topping United return to league action on Sunday (2pm, free entry) at the Trico with the visit of third placed Kidderminster Harriers.

Barrell’s side lead the way on goal difference with a game in hand on second placed Gornal, who visit Rugby Town.

Meanwhile, the Reds have welcomed Joel Ambalu to the coaching team.

Currently, an FA Level 2-qualified coach with a playing background that includes coming through the West Bromwich Albion Academy, Ambalu’s most recent playing spells were with Torquay United of the National League and North Ferriby United of National League North.

Ambalu will work predominantly with the forwards as well as delivering technical sessions as a skills-based coach.
