BOTH the men’s and ladies’ teams were well represented in what proved to be a successful day for Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club in the second race of the Birmingham Cross Country League.
All athletes took on a challenging course at Clopton Park in Stratford where Tamara Freeman and Mark Appleton led the way for B&R’s ladies’ and men’s teams respectively.
Racing first was the ladies’ team, spearheaded by Freeman who ran well to secure an impressive eighth-placed finish, clocking a time of 29:41.
More strong performances followed including Sarah Richardson who finished 78th in 35:23, Jenny Wale 91st (36:32), Joanne Hounsell-Hardy 100th (37:19), Mary Morris 123rd (39:15), Dagmar Prinzing 129th (39:43) and Charlotte Ball 153rd (41:54).
The men’s race started soon afterwards and first back for B&R was Appleton, who continued his eye-catching form to finish in 19th place, completing the course in 39:16.
He was followed by new-boy Nigel Edginton in 23rd (39:43) and youngster Gareth Richardson 31st (40:16). Tim Spencer ran well on his return from injury to take 34th place, clocking 40:35.
Peter Ball in 35th place (40:38) and James Adie 39th (40:54) completed the B&R A team who finished in third place overall.
The B&R men’s second six also impressed in topping the B team table through the efforts of Patrick Mackie 47th (41:15), David Gemmell 52nd (41:27), Kev Fisher 55th (41:35), Andrew Freeman 62nd (42:11), Gavin Moorhead 64th (42:17) and Calvin Scoltock 85th (43:21).
Also doing B&R proud were Kevin Lanckham 98th (44:04), Matt Henney 118th (45:14), Anthony Howell 136th (46:39), Ian Keyte 146th (47:34), Paul Edmonds 150th (48:17), Jamie Dancyger 160th (49:06) and Ian Nutter 183rd (51:09).
B&R will be competing in the combined Worcestershire & Warwickshire County Championships at Newbold Revel in Rugby on Saturday, January 5.
