Charlotte bidding to maintain momentum

Redditch Editorial 11th Feb, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

GREAT Britain’s short track speed skating squad – including Redditch’s Charlotte Gilmartin – are in Holland this weekend for the sixth and final International Skating Union World Cup competition ahead of the World Championships next month.

Gilmartin will again be in action for the women’s team in Dordrecht on the back of recording a lifetime best performance of 43.2 seconds in the 500m as she finished sixth in the event in last weekend’s World Cup in Dresden, Germany.

Gilmartin, 25, who claimed her first World Cup medal in Shanghai in December before winning overall silver at the European Championships in Russia the following month, has headed to the Netherlands with real confidence.

She is joined by Scottish star Elise Christie who recently defended her European champion title and, with three World Cup medals under her belt this season, is looking in great form for the final part of the season.

This weekend’s competition will feature the best short track speed skating talent in the world all fighting for their spot in next month’s World Championships in Seoul, South Korea.
