LOCAL fencer Alex Powell will head out to Poland to represent England in an under 15 international tournament in March after receiving the call-up on Christmas Eve.
Powell’s England selection topped off an extremely successful year which saw her become both British and English age group champion when she won gold medals at the British Under 14 and the English Under 15 Championships in May and June 2014 respectively.
The standard at both of these competitions was extremely high, with fencers from all around the country competing, including a number of established internationals.
Powell, a pupil at Woodrush High School, fought her way through both the pools and the direct elimination fights to win overall, thus guaranteeing her selection for this prestigious event in Poland.
