JOE Willis scored an injury-time equaliser as Alvechurch rescued a late point to draw 1-1 away at Biggleswade Town.

Willis struck two minutes into time added on after Daniel Izekor’s late strike had put the home side ahead at Langford Road.

That came after Church lost 2-1 at home to Stratford Town at Lye Meadow on Boxing Day.

In a dramatic conclusion to the match, Willis had a penalty saved in injury time with the scores level before Stratford won a spot kick of their own in the 100th minute.

Church goalkeeper Ronnie Hollingshead received a red card after denying the Bards a goalscoring opportunity.

That meant an outfield player took the gloves but was unable to prevent Josh Hawker from scoring the resulting penalty.

A goal from Owen James put the Bards ahead only for Shay Willock to draw Church level after the break.

Tim Flowers’ side edged out Harborough Town 1-0 at Harborough Town Community Football Ground as Willock scored the game’s only goal in the club’s final game before Christmas.

The results mean Alvechurch sit 18th in the Southern League Premier Central table, outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Against Biggleswade, the home side took the lead seven minutes from time as Izekor headed in at the back post after Church failed to deal with a long throw from the left.

However, the visitors equalised in stoppage time when Willis finished from close range following a scramble in the box.

Alvechurch are next in action against Banbury United on Wednesday, January 1 with kick-off at 3pm at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium.
