FOOTBALL - Redditch United announce four new signings

Redditch Editorial 20th Jun, 2023   0

REDDITCH United have announced the signing of four new players ahead of the 2023/24 campaign whilst several first-team stars have committed to the club next season.

The Reds have added Jamie Insall, Liam Armstrong, Lucas Yeomans and James Bowen to their squad.

Striker Insall joins from Halesowen Town after scoring the winning goal in the play-off final as The Yeltz secured promotion to the Southern League Premier Central last term.

The 31-year-old signed a three-year deal with Scottish giants Hibernian in 2015 but failed to make a first-team appearance for the club.

He later played for Welsh side Connah’s Quay Nomads where he won the League Cup and two Cymru Premier titles as well as playing in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

Reds boss Matt Clarke said: “I’m really pleased to get Jamie over the line.

“He’s quite a colourful character, he causes controversy and he enjoys social media which under me he knows will have to be far more sensible.

“Jamie is a winner and will drive people on amongst our group. I’ve spoken to a few people about him and what always comes up is Jamie’s desire, but also his ability.

“We are signing Jamie because we believe he will score goals if given the chance in the box.”

Midfielder Armstrong has been with Sporting Khalsa since 2018 and enjoyed spells at United’s local rivals Bromsgrove Sporting and Shawbury United prior to his move to the former.

Armstrong said: “I like to keep the ball, moving it fast and love a tackle. I don’t mind putting it about and try to help everyone progress as much as myself and trying to achieve the targets that’ll be set for us this season.”

Teenage full-back Yeomans came through Derby County’s academy before then moving to Tamworth where he made his debut in the FA Trophy at the age of just 16-years-old.

The 19-year-old right-back also had loan spells at Mickleover and Hednesford Town.

Yeomans said: “I’m happy to be here and fully focused on pre-season, I chose Redditch after speaking with Matt and I just want to play as many games as I can and help the team, the aim is promotion.”

Lastly, Bowen returns to Valley Stadium for a second spell with the Reds having previously signed for the club in February 2019.

The 27-year-old full-back later had stints at Halesowen Town and Boldmere St. Michaels and featured in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division team of the season last term.

Clarke added: “I’ve previously worked with James when I was assistant manager here at Redditch. In my opinion, he’s the best left back at step four.

“He brings leadership qualities, he’s aggressive, he’s fantastic in the dressing but most importantly, he’s a good player.

“If not for work commitments, he’d be playing higher. Lewis Hudson was tough to replace, we are of course disappointed he left but proud that he has moved higher as he deserved it.

“James is as good as we could have got, and I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

First-team players Adam Harrison, Ryan Wollacott, Calum Flanagan and Aram Soleman have all agreed terms to return for the 2023/24 season.
