FOOTBALL - Redditch United let lead slip in Barwell defeat

MATT Clarke admitted his side must address their poor home form after Redditch United surrendered a half-time lead to lose 2-1 against Barwell.

Alex Cameron’s goal put Redditch ahead at the break only for Kobe Chong and Beck-Ray Enoru to strike twice in the space of five second-half minutes at the Valley Stadium.

The Reds sit seventh in the Southern League Premier Central table and have won just two of their seven home games in the league this season.

Clarke said: “It’s another home defeat, another blip at home and another opportunity missed, it’s really disappointing.

“We didn’t go and get that second goal, we had a couple of chances but we didn’t take them, we shot ourselves in the foot with two really poor goals to give away, we couldn’t get going again.

“We’ve got to better all round, we weren’t good enough in every area of the park, we have to find a way to close games out.

“We just have to be better at home, it’s something we have to address as a group, our home form is holding us back really.”

Barwell created the first chance of the game as Joshua Flanagan saw his effort from distance pushed over the bar by Reds stopper Adam Harrison.

And Redditch went close to breaking the deadlock at the other end as Cameron fired against the crossbar from Danny King’s lay off.

However, the Reds eventually took the lead in first half injury time as Cameron finished from close range after Harry Evans made a superb save to deny King from close range.

The visitors equalised on 68 minutes when substitute Chong rolled a cool effort into the bottom right corner from Beck-Ray Enoru’s through ball.

Clarke’s side almost regained the lead as Jaiden White fired a low effort inches past the post from Brad Burton’s pass.

However, Barwell completed the turnaround on 73 minutes when Enoru latched onto a through ball before driving into the penalty area and lashing an effort past Harrison.

Redditch are next in action away at Coleshill Town on Monday, November 13 in the Birmingham Senior Cup with kick-off at 7.45pm at Pack Meadow.
