REDDITCH United have completed the signing of young midfielder Kartell Dawkins.

The 20-year-old is a Leicester City youth product and has previously played for Bromsgrove Sporting, Gloucester City and Alvechurch.

Dawkins worked under current Reds boss Tim Flowers at Gloucester and started Redditch’s first pre-season game against Lye Town only to suffer an injury early on.

Dawkins said: “I’m very happy to have signed for a good club at this level and I can’t wait to get started.

“I was unfortunate to get injured in the first pre-season friendly with a tackle in the opening minutes but I’m doing everything I can to stay fit so that I’m ready for when I come back to hit the ground running.

“I played a bit under Tim at Gloucester last season so he knows what to expect from me and I know what to expect from him, and I’m looking forward to playing under him again.

“This will be my third season in non-league since coming out of the academy system and I feel like I’ve learnt so much in that time.

“My personal ambitions would be to keep learning and developing as a player as well as helping the team to win games and do well.”

Flowers said: “I’m delighted to be able to announce the signing of Kartell Dawkins. He got off to a bad start in terms of taking a kick to his foot in the first 10 minutes or so of our first game and that has shown up on an X-Ray as a hairline crack on a bone in his foot.

“He’ll be in a boot for around about four weeks which is a real blow, we don’t seem to be having much luck with our midfield players at the moment.

“He’s a lad who did very well for Alvechurch joining them before Christmas and he went on to be a good performer for them. I had him at Gloucester where he played one or two games for me and he was excellent up at Scarborough and at home to Buxton, I think it was, and he performed really well.

“He adds a bit of steel into the midfield, he can get around and get his foot in so I’m delighted that he’s joined.”
