MATT Clarke praised his side’s reaction following a poor first-half display as Redditch United secured a 2-0 win at Long Eaton United to remain top of the table.

Second-half goals from Alex Cameron and Reece Flanagan earned the Reds a third straight win in the league at Grange Park.

However, despite the Reds now sitting four points clear at the top of the Southern League Premier Central table, United boss Clarke felt his side were fortunate to go into the break level.

Clarke said: “We were really poor in the first half, we were second in every duel, we found it really difficult.

“We spoke in the dressing room about making sure, coming to bottom of the league, our mindset was right and we applied ourselves in the right way and we didn’t.

“We were really comfortable in the second half, in the end we got the job done, I was really pleased with the reaction in the second half.

“It’s a clean sheet, it was all about getting the three points and three clean sheets and three wins on the bounce, we’ll take that.”

The Reds took the lead on 67 minutes when Cameron scored an overhead kick from close range after Long Eaton failed to deal with Flanagan’s corner into the box from the left.

And the visitors eventually made sure of the points three minutes into injury time after Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton drew a foul in the box and Flanagan duly converted the resulting penalty.

Redditch are next in action at home to St Ives Town on Saturday, February 3 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
