REECE Flanagan scored two second-half penalties as Redditch United beat League One side Burton Albion 2-0 to advance to the Birmingham Senior Cup quarter-finals.
Flanagan netted twice from the spot in the space of six second-half minutes to settle the tie at the Trico Stadium against a Burton side who played several first team players.
Redditch will play either West Bromwich Albion or divisional rivals Hednesford Town in the last eight.
Former Birmingham City midfielder Charlie Lakin was first to try his luck and shot wide from distance as the Brewers dominated the opening 10 minutes.
However, Redditch responded when Martin Riley met Harvey Gregson’s long throw and Danny King fired wide of Ben Garratt’s goal.
Chances were few and far between in the first half as Tom Hewlett’s shot flew wide before Lakin smashed an effort over the bar after he was played in by Drew Robinson.
And the Brewers spurned a golden chance to take the lead on the stroke of half time when Davis Keillor-Dunn flicked a header wide of the mark from Charlie Williams’ superb cross.
Matt Clarke’s side were then awarded a penalty on 54 minutes when Gregson was fouled in the area by Robinson and Flanagan stepped up to send Garratt the wrong way as he rolled the ball into the bottom right corner.
And the Reds won a second penalty just six minutes later when Lakin was penalised for handball from Max Sheaf’s free kick as Flanagan sent Garratt the wrong way for a second time as he smashed the ball into the bottom left corner.
The home side almost added a third goal only for Garratt to deny Bernard Mensah from close range whilst the Reds also handed a first team debut to Billy Duggins from the bench to cap off a fine night’s work.
Redditch are next in action away at Needham Market on Saturday, January 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Bloomfields.
