REDDITCH United secured their first home win of the season with a 4-2 success against Royston Town as Matt Clarke’s side moved into the play-off places.
The Reds were two goals up at the break through Ryan Boothe and Max Sheaf before Reece Flanagan and Robbie Bunn made sure of the points in the second half at the Trico Stadium.
And the result means Redditch now sit fourth in the Southern League Premier Central table having won five of their 10 league matches this term.
Redditch took the lead on 12 minutes when Boothe rounded the goalkeeper and smashed home past several defenders after Flanagan’s initial effort had been blocked.
The Reds should have doubled their lead soon after when Bernard Mensah headed inches wide of the right post from Lewis Hudson’s cross from the left.
And the home side extended their lead on 33 minutes when Sheaf curled a delightful free-kick into the left corner of the goal from 20-yards out.
However, Royston halved the deficit just one minute into the second period when Matthew Bateman scored from the penalty spot.
Clarke’s men were quick to restore their two-goal advantage as Flanagan found the bottom right corner on the turn after 55 minutes following good work from Bunn.
Royston responded again on 64 minutes when Nathan Tshikuna scored a quickly-taken free-kick with Reds goalkeeper Kieran Boucher still organising his wall.
United almost put the game to bed when Mensah’s clever dummy created space, from Sheaf’s pass, before the forward curled an effort narrowly wide of the left post.
And Redditch eventually sealed the points on 89 minutes, as Royston pushed for an equaliser, as Bunn smashed home at the near post after good work from Sheaf.
Redditch are next in action away at Hitchin Town on Saturday, October 8 in the FA Trophy with kick-off at 3pm at Top Field.
