SPORTING Club Inkberrow bowed out of the Wiseman Floodlit Cup after conceding two late goals against higher division opponents Slimbridge.
Slimbridge substitute Jack Smith scored twice in the final eight minutes to break Inkberrow hearts after a spirited performance from the Hellenic League Division One side at Thornhill Park.
Inkberrow’s opponents Slimbridge play one level above the Redditch club in the Hellenic Premier Division.
However, Inkberrow more than matched their opponents in a pulsating first half as both teams spurned numerous chances to break the deadlock.
Stand-in Inkberrow goalkeeper Ben Ladds impressed between the sticks while Declan Green could have scored a hat-trick if not for the heroics of the Slimbridge keeper.
However, Slimbridge finally opened the scoring with 82 minutes on the clock as the ball ricocheted into the path of Smith who calmly finished from six-yards out.
And as Inkberrow searched for a late equaliser, Smith struck again in injury time as the visitors bravely bowed out of the Wiseman Floodlit Cup at the first hurdle.
Inkberrow are next in action away at Hartpury University on Saturday, October 28 with kick-off at 3pm at Hartpury College.
